Let me see it with my own eyes
Not to toot my own horn, dear reader, but I am a fairly good writer. I mean, I have to be in order to have kept you engaged to this point, right? A key component of script writing that I have studied and have attempted to perfect is ensuring that a person’s “voice” is represented. My goal is always to ensure that a person I write speaks like an actual person so that the audience can connect. That skill has translated to the way I take photos and shoot video. If you can capture the essence of why people connect the subject, it makes the photo meaningful.
Always keep your eyes open
On my photography journey, I have often struggled with maintaining my creativity. Whether it is due to my ADD or simply because I get caught up in whatever activity is at hand, there have been extended periods of time where I find myself…well, bored with photos. I realize part of it is a self-imposed limitation. By primarily taking photos of the same general locations(i.e. Disneyland and California Adventure), you are really imposing a strict constraint on what you can shoot. I mean, you can only take so many castle photos before you are ready to move on. However, I have discovered a trick to help me retain my inspiration.
“Ignite the Fire. Light the Spark.”
These words, sent by Obi-Wan Kenobi to any remaining members of the Jedi, have resonated throughout Star Wars. In addition to providing a practical warning to anyone seeking help from the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, they also (in my opinion) form the thesis statement for any Star Wars story. George Lucas famously built his Star Wars vision around Joseph Cambell’s seminal work, The Hero’s Journey. The initial step in that journey is the Call to Adventure. But in order for that call to be issued, in order for a hero to answer that call, the world as he knows it must be challenged. It is only from that state that a hero can truly emerge. And thus, Obi-Wan’s words are a reminder that, no matter how much the darkness may threaten to envelop, a light will shine through.

In this striking portrait shot, Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant, or the Sleeping Beauty Castle, rises gracefully into the sky, its elegant spires reaching towards the heavens. The castle exudes an aura of enchantment and wonder, inviting visitors to step into the magical realm of Disneyland Paris. With its intricate architectural details and fairy tale charm, this iconic landmark serves as a beacon of dreams and imagination for guests of all ages.

I mean, if the man who created the ride says so, who am I to argue? And honestly, I can't. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland Paris definitely feels the definitive version of the attraction. From its unique location, being on an island in Frontierland, to the fact that the ending is one of the fastest Disney coasters ever, this definitely is the G.O.A.T among G.O.A.T.s.

How do you engage with art? It’s something I have been dwelling on, as I have been preparing my photos and videos for the next week. In today’s society, it’s common to see a piece of content, hit the heart, and then move on. After all, “content” is inherently disposable. However, there is something about an artistic endeavor that sticks with you…
Honestly there is truly nothing like it.

What do you do next?
As a creative person, that is the question that both excites you and, if I am being completely honest, keeps you up at night. It’s one thing to spend the time developing a creation that you are proud of…but then when it’s done, what do you do next? I have been thinking a lot about it the past couple of months and for me, the answer is experimentation.

As I have been thinking about where I want to take my creative projects this year, one word kept resonating. “Storytelling.” The term encapsulates why I began to edit videos and take photos in the first place. It is possible to create fantastic photos and videos by simply capturing an individual or a location as it is and presenting it to the world. However, the next step in that is presenting them in a way that connects you, the viewer, with why this moment was important to the creator.
And that is what I want to do this year.

Return To Buena Vista Street
Heading back to the parks after being gone for so long was so refreshing and gave me a much needed jolt of creative energy. Let’s get to know one another and celebrate community over competition and Disney Photography.
